RE: Florida Location

You would love Southern Palms. Right next to great flea market. Something going on for everyone. Nice helpful staff, lots of trees and grass.

RE: Which Fifth Wheel to buy?

We toured the Excel plant 3 or 4 years ago, and the tour guide pointed to a younger fellow working by himself, dressed like the rest of the factory workers, on a new computer automated machine that cuts framing material. Excel's are all wood framed, which I believe to be far superior than aluminum. He was determined to master it himself before he turned the employees loose on it. He was the owner---- Have to say I was impressed. Wish they made something wider than 96 inches

RE: passed up the bighorn

You made the right choice. With this unstable market, longevity is important. Carriage is the second oldest 5th wheel manufacture(NuWa is oldest) in the country. I would stay away from these upstart newby company's that are just starting to learn the ropes in this industry. Happy camping.

RE: 08 F 450 ?s

I have had my 450 for a year now. Right after we purchased it, we headed for FL for the winter(3400 miles). It was our 7th trip pulling the same trailer(16000# Snowbird)and by far the most plesant. Lost the brakes on the front axle of trailer and did'nt even know it as the brakes are so massive on the 450. It was due for it's first oil change when we got there, and for the first time ever, I could not find one issue for the dealer to look at under warranty.Have 12000 miles now, and still no issues. The only thing that I talked to the service department is I have never noticed a regeneration, yet my tail pipe is shinny clean. He said it was probably because I worked it pulling trailer. Got 10-10.5 MPG on the whole trip. My 2000 350 would get 11-12.I do drive between 60-65. Usually 60. The peace of mind having enough truck is worth the lower MPG to me. Besides the brakes, the other things that impress me is how sharp it turns and rides like a luxury car.

RE: RV park in/near Greenville S.C. for long-term

I would stay at April Valley in Easley. We love it there. Right on a privite lake stocked with trout and catfish. 30 min to Greenville.

RE: Will the Ford Super Duty Survive?

Out west, 90% of farmers and loggers would not drive anything but a Ford. My brother owns a logging company. He recently bought some logging equipment that included a late model Chevy. He said he covered it up with a tarp in his shop, so nobody could see it till he got it sold.

RE: Is the midwest the best place to own a RV today?

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I lived 60 years in WA and being a dairy farmer, never got out of WA till I retired and bought a 5er. We wound up buying our Snowbird in Dodge City KS, and consequently spent a lot of time there and love it. It has different beauty in the spring as it does in the summer or fall. We have also been through there in the winter on our way to FL, still has it's own beauty then too.

RE: RDS Fuel Tanks

I have the 91 gal RDS tank with the gravity valve and have never shut the valve off. The valve needs to be installed as horizontal as possible.

RE: RDS Aux Fuel Tank

I have the 91 gal RDS tank with the gravity feed and have never shut the valve off, or had any problem with throwing any code's or fuel gauge not working properly. I just fill both tanks, and drive till the aux is empty and them the fuel gauge starts coming down like normal.

RE: Guess we won't be visiting the factory - WRV

Don't forget King of the road. They were doing just fine till they added the expensive motor home line. Sounds like Alpenlite doesn't it.

RE: Short comings

In response to the question of why was my wife driving the 450 to the grocery store. We are wintering here in central FL, and it's either drive that or walk. I really don't need to justify why I purchased what I did to tow our 16,000# fiver 4300 miles here and back again in the spring, but if you ever drove a 450 towing heavy, you would understand.

Short comings

Someone put a note on our new Ford 450 King Ranch that said something like,"some people need to drive a truck like this to make up for their short comings". It happened at at grocery store parking lot. Hope they watched my little wife get in that truck and drive away.

RE: Where to stay in St Augustine Florida

We were going to stay at Indian Forest, as they were a Passport member in the past. Not anymore. With Goodsam discount, 2 people, $32.00 . That place is not worth that.

RE: New Foundland trip ideas

I was stationed at Peperell AFB, in St John's 50 years ago. You will not find a nicer bunch of people anywhere in the world. Hope to visit again soon. The base closed while I was there. I'll bet the downtown has not changed that much. We had a Newfoundland couple from St Johns camping next to us in FL, and they said it is really grown north of town.

Alaska by Sea and Land

We are wanting to go to Alaska this fall by taking our 5er one way and ferry the other. Who has done this trip, and what is the down side? How much is ferry cost for a 37 foot 5th wheel......from Seattle, WA.? Which would be the best way to tow, going up or comming back? How does the ferry compare to Royal Carribbian? Describe the ferry - - luxury dining rooms, all you can eat buffets, nice staterooms?

Marine Corps Rifle team Drilling

I am trying to find the thread that showed that sharp group of marine's doing a drill with rifles in a school gym. I want my wife to see it, and can't find it. It did bring a tear.
